Corporal Barny Miller, Musician South African Permanent Force Band

Barney B Miller was born on the 19th of August and was a Jewish Musician, joining the permanent force of the South African Army on the 29th of April 1940.

He spent time with multiple different bands and postings, first in Mombasa in October 1940. He was then dispatched to Port Said with the 2nd permanent force band, attached to the 1st SA D/W Headquarters on the 3rd of May 1941. He was admitted to hospital a couples of times whilst in Egypt.

After this, was recorded on the 18th of May 1943 as being posted to Durban Music, Northern Command, later being transferred to the SAAF (VAS) on the 26th of October 1943. He was discharged on the 1st of December 1943 as he was surplus to service requirements.

 

This group is accompanied by photocopies of his service cards and documents, and his re-issue documents for his 2 missing Stars which come un-engraved as issued.
