Description

The General Service Medal (South Africa) was instituted in 1987. it was awarded to members of the South African Defence Force for operational service inside South Africa after the 1st of January 1983 in the prevention or suppression of terrorism or internal disorder, or preservation of life, health or property, or the maintenance of essential services and law and order, or crime prevention.

The Unitas medal was awarded to all members of the South African National Defence Force in 1994 to commemorate its establishment. The medal displays a star on the obverse with seven points, one for each force integrated into the SANDF, with the Republic of South Africa’s coat of arms surrounded by “Unity” in the 10 different languages.
