Description
An interesting single, as there are three potential recipients within the Kings African Rifles. The medal was purchased in a bulk lot with notes indicating he is the McDonald listed below with specific details which would have been difficult to attain in the pre-digital age (notes written by typewriter).
Lt. Archibald McDonald served with the South African Heavy Artillery in German South West Africa as a Gunner. Following discharge for medical reasons he joined the 2nd South African Pioneers and served in East Africa, before being transferred to the 3rd Kings African Rifles.
The Notes then state he was killed in East Africa, however the A McDonald detailed above did not die as can be seen by his service documents. However another A McDonald served with 3rd KAR and was killed in East Africa. another A McDonald served with 7th KAR also.
