Description
Amos Mayisa, a Ndebele (Native African) man of 25 years volunteered for service with the Native Military Corps in Driefontein on the 12th of December 1941.
From that date until March 1945 Mayisa remained in South Africa, being posted to numerous depots and camps across the Union. However in April 1945, he was dispatched to Eygpt, and then Italy, being posted to the 34th Squadron South African Air Force in Italy until November 1945. Whilst in Italy, he went AWOL from the 18th of December 1944 until the 4st of January 1945. He was transferred back home after a period in Eygpt, finally being discharged on the 15th of February 1946.
