Private John Hodgson, 4th West Yorkshire Regiment

Hailing from the Town of Leeds, John William Hodgson all of 18 years old attested for service with the 4th West Yorkshire Regiment on the 13th of January 1899. Likely anticipating an adventure in a new and foreign land, Hodgson completed his 49 days of training and was shipped off to South Africa with the rest of the unit in February 1900. The 4th was a Militia unit, and spent it’s period in South Africa in the Cape, as such Hodgson is entitled to a QSA with a Cape Colony clasp.
