Description

August Cysters served with the South African Field Artillery in East Africa & German South West Africa before entering service with the Cape Auxiliary Horse Transport in France. He suffered from Malaria whist in East Africa, however his service record is filled with six repeat occurrences of being AWOL, parading in a duty uniform, and striking a fellow soldier a few days after the chaotic German Spring offense of March 1918.
