Description
Eric Lionel Burrowes attested for service with South African Forces on the 8th of Jan, 1945. Born in Livingstone North Rhodesia on the 28th of March 1926, he was a Clerk prior to the war, living in Bulawayo. He was part of the Southern Rhodesian forces prior to the 31st of May 1944 to the date of his South African Attestment. He was flown from Bulawayo to Cairo in Jan 1945, and posted to the South African reserve artillery regiment whilst receiving specialist training. Formally posted to South African Armoured division on the 31st of Jan 1945, he was transferred to 1/6 Field regiment in May, 1945 and remained in Egypt, arriving back in South Africa Feb 1946. He was discharged to be re-absorbed in SR Forces, serving 1 year 44 days with South African forces.
